Vamos a San Chez!

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan—Esta noche, venga a San Chez para ayudar a  La Cruz Roja!

Translation: Tonight, come to San Chez to help the Red Cross!

Local artists will showcase their work at the Art Sale for Japan benefit hosted by San Chez Bistro on Thursday May 12th 2011, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Several of Grand Rapid’s emerging and established artists will contribute a selection of artwork for the event that includes prints, ceramics, paintings, photography and crafts.  Guests of the event will have the opportunity to purchase some of the pieces outright, and to bid on others in a silent auction.  Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross and their efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan in March.

The artists participating in the Art Sale for Japan range from the well-known to the up-and-coming.  View and purchase prints by Brett Colley, Dellas Henke, Jenny Pope, Todd Freeman, Jessica Hacker, Uma Mishra, Joel Berry and Jules Schmucker.  Photography by Dan Plasman and Andrea Lynn Dirheimer, as well as Annie DeYoung and the Emerging Photographers will be featured.  Guests can also buy pottery and ceramics by Israel Davis and Brian Caponi, handmade children’s toys by Hilary Karnatz, and pieces by Jessica Montgomery, Yumiko Soga, Emily Johnston, Katie Mulder-Kolakowski, Justin Kellner, and Talor Greenfield.  Margaret Larabel’s beautiful illustrations of cherry blossoms, a flower that symbolizes rebirth and regrowth, highlight the message of hope for those in need in Japan.

Donations are welcome and encouraged at the door.  Arrive early in the evening to sample meats and cheeses from the new San Chez Deli, and finish the night off with a free concert by Delilah Dewilde and the Lost Boys.  Come as you are, no fancy dress is required.  A cash bar will be available throughout the evening, so raise your glass for Japan.
