Heart Work is Hard Work Project 3

Could you make a blank canvas into a work of art? What about a blank canvas bag? Now, could you do it in less than two minutes?

Well, head down to he Grand Rapids ARTisans Market to find out! Located at 1147 Fulton St, the market has been a staple for the Grand Rapids community for the past six years. And, on Sunday, September 26 from 11 AM until 3 PM, American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids youth volunteers ranging in ages from 13 to 24 will be hosting this sort of impromptu art project.

Canvas bags and paint will be provided, but we need your artistic abilities to make this event a success. Participants will be given a bag, paints, and less than two minutes to finish decorating the bag. At the end of the allotted time, the volunteers will hang the bags for all to see.

After all the pieces are dried, the Red Cross volunteers will donate these unique works of art to a local food pantry as part of the Griffin Properties Heart Work is Hard Work project. By using these bags, food pantries will not only cut down on cost, but also the amount of waste. Also, by partnering with the ARTisans Market and local food pantries, Red Cross youth volunteers will be able to see a variety of ways to serve within the community.

Please note that Sunday September 26 is also the final ARTisans market of the year, so come out and enjoy this wonderful event while you still can this season!

Not only will there be opportunities to buy beautiful artwork, but also to create some of your own. Now, that is a wonderful combination.

Look for the Red Cross table positioned on the plaza for some hands on fun and art. So, why not come on over and help out?

If you are interested in volunteering at this project or any other Heart Work is Hard Work project, please email Elizabeth Wright at ewright@ggr.redcross.org or call (616) 456-8661 ext. 3501 for more information. Keep looking for other Red Cross youth services projects in the near future.

We would love to see you there!
