Schools Step Up to Help Haiti

Since the earthquake in Haiti, the West Michigan community has stepped up to help in astounding ways.  Area schools have been especially generous, giving incredible amounts to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.

Two weeks ago, I headed over to Ridge Park Charter Academy to pick up a $500+ check.   This week, I’ll be traveling to Rockford’s Valley View Elementary to accept over $1000.  Last week, Sarah Geurkink, our AmeriCorps International Services Coordinator, spoke to students at Grand Rapids City High about the international work of the American Red Cross and received a check from the students.

(Thanks to AmeriCorps Matt Szuminski for taking these photographs.)

Alexis Hall and Diana Worsley present the check to Ashley Owen and Sarah Geurkink.

Thanks. Sarah!

And thanks to Alexis and Diana for raising money to support our neighbors in Haiti!
